The best New Forest cycling trails

Trails for every ability

The New Forest has over 100 miles of marked cycle trails, most of them traffic-free and well-maintained. The terrain is gentle enough for families with young children but varied enough to keep more seasoned riders interested.

Hire shops operate near Brockenhurst and Burley, so you don't need to travel with bikes if you'd rather not.

  • The Castleman Trailway — flat, traffic-free, great for families
  • The Ornamental Drive loop — forest canopy the whole way
  • Fordingbridge to Alderholt — quiet lanes, big views

Fuelling the ride

Most routes pass through villages with decent pubs, tea rooms, or farm shops. The New Forest is genuinely good food country — it's worth planning your route around a lunch stop.
